Sabbatical Visiting Researcher / Professor at the CSH (University of Bern, Switzerland)
Job Summary
Job Description
The Center for Space and Habitability (CSH) at the University of Bern, Switzerland, invites applications for outstanding senior scientists (at least assistant professor or permanent staff scientist level) to take part or all of their sabbatical at the CSH. We are broadly interested in exoplanet science, planetary science (Solar System), astrochemistry, star and planet formation, geophysics, astrobiology, philosophy of science and science education. We are interested in hosting established researchers with internationally recognised track records in their fields of expertise, and who will nurture and mentor the CSH and Bernoulli Fellows.
Possible sabbatical windows include the spring (Feb to May 2019) and fall (Sept to Dec 2019) semesters. For well-motivated applications, we will also consider the entire calendar year of 2019. The CSH will support housing and per diem costs for the duration of the sabbatical, as well as international travel for the candidate to and from Bern. In exceptional circumstances, we may fund salary costs. The successful candidate will receive administrative and logistical support from the CSH secretaries. Additional travel and research funding may be negotiated with the CSH Director. We expect the successful candidate to spend the bulk of their time at the CSH during their visit, and to participate actively in its intellectual activities and interaction mechanisms (colloquia, seminars, research lunches, coffee discussions, etc). Ultimately, we expect the sabbatical visitor to enhance the intellectual environment of the CSH.
Each prospective candidate will submit a statement of research interests with a maximum length of 5 pages, including the research and collaborations to be pursued during her/his time at the CSH. Elucidating possible synergies with existing CSH researchers is looked upon favorably; please consult CSH website for details. Additional application materials include a CV (no page limit), a list of peer-reviewed publications (no page limit) and a cover letter (maximum of 2 pages; brief statement of interest). The entire application should be submitted as a SINGLE PDF FILE to CSH Director Prof. Kevin Heng (kevin.heng ‘at’ csh.unibe.ch) by the application deadline of 31st October 2018.
