Professorship (W3) in Astronomy Missions


INSTITUTE OF SPACE SYSTEMS / AT THE EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY
The professorship represents the field of astronomy missions in teaching and research, which includes concepts, instruments, development, operation and data analysis of astronomical missions with flying platforms (aircrafts, balloons, satellites). The professorship will manage the German SOFIA Institute (DSI) at the Institute of Space Systems (IRS). We are looking for a person who is distinguished by high-ranking scientific publications with international visibility. The scientific and technological support of both the SOFIA project and the planning and conception of further future astronomical missions and the development of related instruments are expected, also in cooperation with other institutes of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering and Geodesy and the University of Stuttgart. In addition, observation campaigns with SOFIA and other space missions are to be carried out. The research topics mentioned above are to include clear engineering aspects. Experience in the fields of infrared astronomy and instrumentation and research activities in the field of astronomy are desired.
In addition to research and teaching (with a focus on the M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering), the tasks of the future job holder include active acquisition of third-party funds, participation in research collaborations, and active participation in academic self-administration.
