Job Description
Christ Church, a collge of the University of Oxford, invites applications for a five-year Career Development Fellow (CDF) in Astrophysics from 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is funded by Christ Church, but the candidate will also be an associate member of the Hintze Centre for Astrophysical Surveys and faculty of the Department of Physics, University of Oxford. This Career Development Fellowship is intended for an early-to mid-career scholar who wishes to further their experience of undergraduate teaching in Astrophysics alongside their research.
The Fellow will be expected to deliver an independent research programme of outstanding quality in Astrophysics. This programme should be within the remit of the Hintze Centre for Astrophysical Surveys in the sub-department of Astrophysics, namely Observational Cosmology, Galaxy Evolution, or the Transient Universe, at a level comparable with that in leading departments worldwide. The Fellow will give high-quality tutorials and classes at undergraduate level and encompass administrative and pastoral duties for Christ Church and the Department.
The successful candidate will have a completed doctorate in Physics, Astrophysics or other relevant discipline. The ability to demonstrate the skills necessary for successful tutorial and class teaching and teaching in formal lectures, including the ability to explain problems and ideas lucidly, to listen to students’ questions and views sympathetically, and to enthuse and inspire them is essential.
