Schedule: Temporary full-time (6.5 weeks in June/July)
Travel required: Live on or near one of SSP’s host university campuses for 6.5 weeks during June/July 2024. Additionally, travel is required for one weekend in Spring 2024 for our annual in-person Directors’ meeting.
Summary
The Summer Science Program (SSP) is an independent non-profit that offers teens an exhilarating and inspiring immersion into hands-on experimental science. Working in teams of three, 36 participants and 7 faculty form a supportive “living and learning community” over 39 days. Each team completes an authentic research project, taking and analyzing original data. Afterward, they join a worldwide network of 2,500+ alumni of all ages. Requirements
- You will supervise students in observing near-Earth asteroids and writing a computer program to calculate the orbital elements of an asteroid given measurements of its position. As such, a PhD in physics, astronomy, astrophysics, planetary science, or a closely related field is required for both positions.
- Has worked as an instructor of record for calculus-based physics, astronomy, programming in Python, and/or celestial mechanics
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment screening
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salaries are $16,159 for Assistant Academic Directors (AADs) and $20,884 for Academic Directors (ADs).
