The Canadian SKA Scientist Program: call for applications
Job Summary
Job Description
The SKA project is a global effort to deliver one of the most ambitious scientific facilities on the planet. The project is building the 2 largest radio telescope arrays in the world, which will become the SKA Observatory. The SKA will deliver transformational science about the universe, the fundamental laws of physics and the prospects for life beyond our solar system.
The Canadian SKA Scientist Program will fund fixed-term positions (up to 5 years) at Canadian universities for early-career researchers to conduct independent research and contribute directly to SKA science. Up to two positions will be funded in 2026. Canadian SKA Scientists form a network of SKA experts across Canada that supports the broader community in using SKA and its pathfinders to advance discovery through innovative instrumentation, technology and research.
The Canadian SKA Scientist Program offers a generous compensation package comparable to other prestigious postdoctoral fellowships, including full salary, research and travel funding, and relocation support.
Canadian SKA Scientist positions can be held at a Canadian institution of the Scientist's choice as long as the choice is justified and the institution has agreed and identified a faculty member as the point of contact. Applications must include an endorsement letter from the proposed host institution expressing its willingness to host the applicant.
The NRC is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and strongly encourages applications from women, persons with disabilities, racialized persons and Indigenous persons. Accommodation will be provided for applicants with disabilities.
This Program is managed by the NRC's Herzberg Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Centre.
Important Dates:
- Applications are due 23:59 PT Friday 7 November, 2025
- Applicants will be selected in early February 2026 with appointments beginning prior to December 31, 2026.
