Instructor (Physics), pos, #82111, UH Hilo, non-tenure track, full-time, general funds, nine-month appointment to begin Aug. 2018, pending position clearance and funds.
The Physics & Astronomy Dept. of the U. Hawaii at Hilo invites applications for passionate teachers with experience in coordinating and teaching hands-on physics lab courses as well as teaching introductory courses at the algebra and calculus levels. The applicant should possess a strong commitment to student learning and success.
Duties: Teach lower-division physics courses, including labs for major and non-major students. Review lab curriculum and provide leadership in revamping and coordinating physics lab activities.
Minimum qualifications: Masters in physics, astronomy, or related fields. Teaching experience in physics at the undergraduate level (Minimum 1 year).
Desired qualifications: Experience managing educational physics labs at the university undergraduate level. Demonstrated leadership in developing new or revamping physics lab courses at the undergrad level. Prior knowledge or implementation of contemporary pedagogy in science education. Experience with equipment and scientific software used in undergrad physics labs. Knowledge of scientific software. Familiarity with undergrad lab safety protocols. Successful experience working collaboratively with diverse faculty and student body.
