ScienceBetter Consulting, via a contract with STScI, is seeking a part-time contractor to design, implement and execute realistic scientific use cases that demonstrate how to efficiently process TESS data held in the AWS cloud. In collaboration with STScI staff, the contractor will
- Create a set of tutorial notebooks and documentation to show users how to retrieve and process data for thousands of TESS targets using the TIKE science platform. The tutorials will be written as Jupyter Notebooks in the Python programming language.
- Create tutorial notebooks demonstrating how to parallelize workflows using tools such as Dask.
- Create documentation or notebooks that teach when cloud computing is ideal and how to efficiently implement cloud-hosted workflows while considering costs of compute and egress.
- Update existing time domain tutorial notebooks so they optimally make use of cloud resources.
- Identify and/or implement improvements to existing software packages (e.g., astropy, astroquery, lightkurve) that are necessary to enable cloud-native data analysis workflows.
- Identify and help execute ways to simplify or streamline common tasks when working on the TIKE science platform.
- Create teaching materials and documentation for how to use the TIKE Docker container in a personal AWS account when additional compute resources are needed.
Ideal candidates would have experience with the Python programming language and relevant astronomical software, AWS cloud services, working collaboratively on GitHub, and TESS data or time domain astronomy.
These services are expected to be completed remotely. Contractors will be expected to participate in regular telecons.
