Assistant Professor of Physics

The College of Science and Mathematics at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is seeking candidates for a full time, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for Fall 2018.

This position is expected to contribute to teaching across the entire physics curriculum at UVI which includes courses both for physics majors and non-majors. The successful candidates will be expected also to conduct research in a relevant areas of physics and to include undergraduate students in their research activities. UVI is home to physics research facilities including the Etelman Observatory and its robotically controlled 0.5m telescope, a new research-grade solar telescope and a satellite detector and cubesat development lab including a high-vacuum chamber. The selected candidate may take advantage of these facilities to benefit their research but may also carry-out research in any other field of physics research and are not required to be a specialist in the field of astrophysics to be considered for the position.

Successful applicants will be expected to teach across the curriculum in support of the University’s newly designed physics major as well as carry out an independent research program including undergraduates. Student mentoring in both research and academic activities during the semester as well as during summer research projects is expected. Other responsibilities include advising, and University service.
