Job Description

The Columbia University Astrophysics Laboratory invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist or Associate Research Scientist position in Theoretical Astrophysics. The successful candidate will join the group of Dr. Yuri Levin. The selected candidate will be expected to be involved in a broad research program on the interior dynamics of neutron stars. In particular, the candidate will focus on research in evolution of magnetic fields in pulsars and magnetars.

The successful candidate will be appointed at Columbia University’s Morningside campus in New York City. The appointment will be for one year only.

Qualifications

This position requires a Ph.D. degree in Astronomy, Physics, or a closely related discipline. Applicants with 0-3 years of experience will be considered for Postdoctoral Research Scientist; applicants with 3+ years of experience will be considered for Associate Research Scientist. Prior experience working in astrophysics theory and experience in numerical modeling is strongly preferred.

The successful candidate is expected to be able to work well independently and cooperatively with a team and to communicate the results of their research both orally and in writing.  Demonstrated written and oral communication skills are highly desirable.
