Job Description

We invite applications for two postdoctoral research positions at the Department of Astrophysics (DAp // UMR AIM) of CEA-Saclay. The appointments are associated with the research group of Dr. Matteo Bugli, where the selected candidates are expected to work on the ERC-funded project “BlackJET”, for which Dr. Matteo Bugli is the PI.

The project’s workplan spans multidimensional numerical models of extreme stellar explosions, computation and analysis of multi-messenger signals, explosive nucleosynthesis, launching and propagation of relativistic jets, and modeling of prompt emission/afterglow associated to GRB events.

Applicants should have a PhD in astrophysics or plasma physics by the time they start this postdoctoral position, and their scientific expertise should be among the following fields: core-collapse supernovae, relativistic MHD, high-performance computing, gamma-ray astronomy, astrophysical radiative processes.

AIM is a laboratory associated with the Department of Astrophysics (DAp) at CEA, Saclay, located 25 km / 40 mins south of Paris downtown. AIM offers a lively and active research environment of the highest international standards, with about 200 researchers contributing to many fields of observational, theoretical, and applied astrophysics. The successful applicants will join the COAST team,a CEA based initiative gathering researchers and engineers all involved in high performance computing in astrophysics. They will have access to national supercomputing centers as well as dedicated access to smaller local facilities.
