Digital Editor, Astronomy.com

Overview

Firecrown is seeking an energetic space enthusiast to oversee editorial direction for the Astronomy brand online. The Digital Editor for Astronomy.com will have oversight of web content strategy and audience development and lead digital growth initiatives for the brand. This individual will manage relationships with internal and external content contributors and collaborate with the full Astronomy editorial team to develop exciting and engaging editorial ideas. The Digital Editor also will edit and optimize content for the website and managing the channel distribution strategy. Data is at the core of our strategy development and drives our business decisions. 

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Manage the digital content strategy to align with Astronomy’s business goals and audience/traffic growth. Monitor progress, identify risks and opportunities, and adjust strategy as needed to achieve desired business results.
• Develop new story ideas for Astronomy.com and oversee the assignment of stories.
• Manage internal and external contributor relationships. Edit articles to ensure they are engaging, maintain brand standards and are optimized for the web. 
• Oversee content distribution channels. Monitor performance and recommend changes to meet objectives. 
• Monitor engagement and performance of content using analytics tools, leveraging insights to make decisions on editorial content.  
• Excellent time management and solid organizational skills, with the ability to effectively manage the flow of editorial content, prioritize projects, and meet company deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Experience

• 5+ years’ experience acquiring, writing, and editing a broad range of general science content. 
• Experience with managing content for multiple distribution channels, including social media and newsletters.
• Proven record for writing and editing space content for the web that drives audience. 
• Solid understanding of digital analytics as it pertains to digital content strategy and content performance. 
• A knowledge of, enthusiasm for, and deep interest in astronomy and space exploration are a big plus.
