Job Description
The Institute of Radio Astronomy & Astrophysics (IRyA) of the National Autonomous University of México (UNAM, Morelia Campus) invites applications for a tenure track position in Astrophysics at the level of Assistant Professor. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in Astrophysics or a related discipline, and have at least two years of postdoctoral experience.
Candidates from all subfields of astronomy and astrophysics will be considered. Current institute faculty have a broad range of interests, with particularly active research groups in extragalactic astronomy, star formation, late stages of stellar evolution, high energy astrophysics, and interstellar turbulence and numerical simulations of gas dynamics.
The main selection criteria will be outstanding research accomplishments and promise of future achievement. Faculty members are expected to carry out original research, collaborate with other faculty members, and must teach Astronomy and/or Physics courses at graduate or undergraduate levels, as well as mentor students. The courses may be taught in Spanish or English.
Astronomers at Mexican institutions can compete for the Mexican share of observing time at the 10.4-m Gran Telescopio de Canarias (GTC) and the Large Millimeter Telescope (LMT, Puebla). The institute provides limited funds for publishing, and limited support for observing and traveling; further funding is available by competing for UNAM and/or other national grants.
