Job Description

Université PSL is inviting applications for a Junior Professor Chair in astrophysics titled “Studying galaxies and the interstellar medium in the era of large radio-telescopes”. The position is based at the Laboratory for the study of the Universe and eXtreme phenomena (LUX) at the Observatoire de Paris – PSL. This is a tenure-track position with a reduced teaching load, leading to a full professorship. The starting date is December 2025 or later by agreement.

The position offers a competitive international salary and start-up package and is open to researchers working on the physics of galaxies and the interstellar medium, especially through leadership in major observational projects, notably in radio astronomy.

The position is based at the Laboratory for the study of the Universe and eXtreme phenomena (LUX) at the Observatoire de Paris – PSl in collaboration with the Laboratoire de Physique at École Normale Supérieure (LPENS), the role aims to strengthen collaboration between both labs in areas such as astrophysics, signal processing, artificial intelligence, mathematical and statistical modeling, and numerical simulations.

The successful candidate will also contribute to educational development at PSL, with the opportunity to propose innovative teaching in astronomy and astrophysics.

Selection procedure :
The evaluation will be carried out by a selection committee made up of experts from within and outside
PSL. The composition of the selection committee will be made public prior to its work.
Candidates shortlisted on the basis of their application will be invited to an interview (in person or by
videoconference), during which they will present their previous research and teaching activities and
their research and teaching plans for the position, followed by a discussion with the selection
committee. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to give a seminar at LUX in early October 2025 to
present their research and interact with the host laboratory.
Provisional audition period: week 42 (October 13th-17th, 2025).

The position includes an internationally competitive salary and competitive start-up package.

The recruited person will benefit from a reduction of 2/3 of his/her teaching load in the phase leading
up to tenure and financial support of 200 k€ for research. This package is intended to be used up to
a minimum of 120 k€ for the payroll of the prize-winner's collaborators (PhD student, post-doc, contract
staff, IT) and for the running of the project (missions and travel, subscriptions, reagents, etc.).
