We invite applications for a project researcher who will conduct research on time-domain astronomy using Subaru telescope/Hyper Suprime-Cam and Prime Focus Spectrograph and next-generation large surveys: an optical survey by Rubin/Legacy Survey of Space and Time and near-infrared surveys by European Euclid satellite and the U.S. Roman satellite, mainly with Dr. Nozomu Tominaga and Dr. Takashi Moriya at Division of Science, and Dr. Hisanori Furusawa and Dr. Tadafumi Takata at Astronomy Data Center. A successful candidate is expected to work on 1) developing a science platform for performing efficient analysis of the large data sets obtained with the above telescopes and surveys, 2) leading the construction of the multi-waveband catalogs and data analysis tools primarily for time-domain astronomy, and 3) pursuing time-domain astronomy at Division of Science or Astronomical Data Center .
Term of Appointment:
(1) The successful candidate is expected to start the job on 1 October 2024 or as early as possible after 1 October 2024. The term of the contract shall expire on March 31, 2029.
(2) The term of employment will be three years after the appointment starts. If the successful candidate had been employed as an NINS employee after April 1, 2014, the term will be set so that the total accumulated period of employment does not exceed ten years. Any researcher who has been employed as a NAOJ Project Research Fellow for a total of five or more years is not eligible to apply for this position.
Minimum Educational Requirement:
The applicant must have a PhD degree or is expected to have it by the starting date.

Compensation and Benefits

The project research staff will be employed under an annual salary system, and will receive a salary proportionate to the pay grades of a national university assistant professor or NAOJ Project Research Fellow(paid monthly in 12 equal payments). (Fixed salary, no salary increase)
