Job Description

Yellowstone Safari Company is seeking a passionate stargazing guide to lead astronomy experiences in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, renowned for its exceptionally dark skies and breathtaking celestial views! As a luxury tour company specializing in high-end, customized experiences, we are looking for another astronomer to join our Bozeman-based team. This role involves leading educational programs and engaging visitors in the wonders of astronomy while fostering a deeper understanding of the universe. The ideal candidate will possess a deep knowledge of astronomy, strong communication skills, and the ability to convey complex concepts in an accessible manner.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct guided astronomy tours and educational sessions for visitors, showcasing celestial phenomena and astronomical concepts.
  • Develop and implement engaging programs that highlight the significance of stargazing and the night sky in the Greater Yellowstone region.
  • Maintain knowledge of current astronomical research and advancements in the field, as well as indigenous knowledge and local history of the night sky.
  • Operate a range of optical equipment such as telescopes, binoculars, and other stargazing equipment.
  • Provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in astronomy or a related field; experience in research is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences effectively.
  • A keen eye for detail and a passion for sharing knowledge about the universe.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, specifically evenings, for stargazing events.

Compensation is on a per-trip basis, with per-trip pay set between $180 and $250 depending on experience.
