Associate Professorship or Professorship of Cosmology
Job Summary
Job Description
UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD
Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division
Department of Physics in association with St Peter's College
Associate Professor in Cosmology
The Department of Physics proposes to appoint an Associate Professor (equivalent to Lecturer) or Professor in Cosmology with effect from 1st October 2018 or as soon thereafter as possible. The successful candidate will also be offered a Tutorial Fellowship at St Peter's College, under arrangements described in the further particulars. The combined University and College salary will be according to experience on a scale from £45,562 per annum plus a housing allowance of £8,484 p.a. and access to a joint equity scheme. An allowance of £2,626 p.a. would be payable upon award of Full Professor title.
The Associate Professor will join a world leading research team studying the physics of the early universe, the growth and morphology of large scale structure and the nature of fundamental forces. This effort brings together theoretical and observational cosmologists who are working on a range of different topics, from simulating large scale structure, galaxy formation and astrophysical plasmas as well as developing new theoretical tools to understand dark matter, dark energy and the nature of cosmological gravity. There is a vigorous activity analysing current cosmological data sets and members of the department are playing a leading role in preparation for the next generation of cosmological surveys (specifically the Simons Observatory and Stage 4 CMB research, the LSST, Euclid and SKA project).
The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in cosmology, or a related subject, and will have a proven record of high quality creative research in cosmology at an international level. They will be expected to develop a world-leading research programme, to provide excellent teaching at undergraduate and graduate level, and participate in the administration of St Peter's College and the Physics Department.
Further particulars, containing details of the application procedure and of the duties, may be obtained below or from Professor Pedro Ferreira at [email protected] or telephone: +44 (0) 1865 273366.
The closing date for applications is 12 noon BST on 30 August 2017. Please quote departmental reference PMC/Cosmo/2017/1 on all correspondence. Applicants should ensure that their referees send letters by the same deadline.
Interviews for shortlisted candidates will be held during November 2017.
