Job Description
Postdoctoral Position in Galactic Dynamics
The Department of Astronomy (DoA) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in galactic dynamics, to work in close collaboration with the research group led by Prof. Juntai Shen and Professor Zhao-Yu Li.
The appointment is expected to begin in September 2026 and will run for two years, with the possibility of extension to a third year, contingent on performance and funding availability. The galactic dynamics group at SJTU investigates the dynamical structures, formation, and evolution of the Milky Way and disk galaxies, employing a combination of theoretical modeling, numerical simulations, and analysis of large spectroscopic and photometric surveys.
The successful candidate will also have opportunities to collaborate with other faculty members in the department. The DoA currently consists of approximately 15 faculty members and a growing cohort of postdoctoral researchers and graduate students, fostering an active and international research environment. Research areas span cosmology, galaxy formation, galactic dynamics, and stellar astrophysics. The department is a full institutional member of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) collaboration and is actively involved in major upcoming projects, including the Subaru Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS) and the China Space Station Telescope (CSST). For more information, please visit: http://astro.sjtu.edu.cn/en.
The annual salary for this position is competitive. Additional support is available for attending domestic and international workshops and conferences, as well as for the purchase of computing equipment such as laptops and workstations.
