Job Description
The Institute of Astrophysical Studies (IEA) at Universidad Diego Portales (UDP) invites applications for postdoctoral research fellowships in observational astrophysics, including (but not limited to) one of the following research lines: Planet Formation, Planetary Science and the Solar System, Galactic Archeology, Supernovae and Transients, AGN, Galaxy Formation and Evolution, and Cosmology; as well as theoretical studies on General Relativity and Gravitational waves.
Selected candidates will be sponsored by a UDP faculty member to apply for FONDECYT 3-year postdoctoral fellowships, CAS-ANID/ALMA-ANID/Gemini-ANID/Comité Mixto ESO-Chile/Rubin-Chile 2-year postdoctoral grants, or considered for other postdoctoral positions from grants led by members of our team (YEMS: Young Exoplanets and their Moons; MINGAL: Millennium Nucleus for Galaxies; CATA: The Center of Excellence in Astrophysics and Related Technologies). The beginning of the FONDECYT fellowships is April 2027, but earlier starting dates are possible for other grants.
While at UDP, successful candidates will qualify as members of the Chilean community and will be eligible to apply for part of the 10% privileged access to all telescopes in Chile, including ALMA, Gemini South, VLT, Magellan, CTIO, SOAR, NTT, and APEX, as well as to new/future facilities such as the Vera Rubin/LSST, CCAT, ELT, GMT, and the CTA. Faculty members at UDP are currently involved and leading numerous projects, including ALMA observations of protoplanetary disks, IR and submm lab measurements of meteorites and cosmic dust, exoplanet detection and characterization and high-contrast imaging, multi-wavelength characterization of asteroids and comets, the Next Generation Transit Survey (NGTS), CHEOPS, PLATO, PhyloGal, ASAS-SN, DESI, LSST-AGN collaboration, the WISE Hot DOGs collaboration, 4MOST ChANGES, ALMA-CRISTAL, ALMA-CONDOR and ALMA-CHAMPS large programs, the JWST ORCHIDS program, the SPT SMG collaboration, the CCAT project, and the ALeRCE collaboration.
