ILOA Hawai'i is preparing to conduct Astronomy from the Moon in Spring 2023 NET March 31 with its ILO-X precursor instruments aboard Intuitive Machines Nova-C Moon lander launching by SpaceX Falcon 9.
ILO-X dual-camera 2+ cm NFOV and WFOV lenses (see link for specs) will attempt to capture the First Image of the Milky Way Galaxy from the Surface of the Moon, and make other astronomical observations.
ILOA needs a Hawaii-based Astrophysicist Associate (PhD, beyond or equivalent) to assist with:
- ILO-X instruments utilization, technical expertise for observation possibilities 2023-2026 -- with ILO-1 flagship and ILO-2 backup more advanced Astronomy from the Moon instrumentation now newly contracted and under development with Canadensys Aerospace;
- Interacting with the developing Asia Astronomy Organization, and connecting with our international astronomy directors in Canada, China, Southeast Asia / Thailand, South America, India, Japan, Europe to solicit proposals and outreach;
- On site / on the call for ILO technical meetings.
The Spring 2023 Nova-C launch date and precise ILO-X Moon landing site coordinates should be available very soon.
We estimate 5-10 hours a week professional help is needed at this time to become familiar with our work and to accomplish tasks - this may increase as we get closer to launch / landing.
Some 'set schedule items' would be Monday ILOA missions overview telecoms with at 10:00 HST for 1 hour; and tech meetings with Intuitive Machines and Canadensys are typically scheduled bi-weekly on Tuesdays 11:00 HST for about an hour, while we advance toward ILO-X instruments integration – however this may change.
