Postdoctoral Position in supernovae cosmology on the Zwicky Transient Facility and Vera C. Rubin Observatory’s LSST
Job Summary
Marseille
France
Job Description
The CPPM is offering a three-year post-doctoral position in observational cosmology to work on the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) and Vera C. Rubin Observatory’s Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) datasets.
With its 47 square degree field of view camera, ZTF observes the northern hemisphere in three bands daily. Since mid-2018 it discovers, follows and types ~1000 type Ia supernovae per year at z<0.1. LSST is going to start observing with high cadence the full southern sky in 2025 with a much larger camera, detecting supernovae up to higher redshifts.
These homogeneous samples can unlock unprecedented cosmological tests, such as an independent measurement of H0 and its isotropy, as well as a measurement of fσ8 at z~0 from SNe Ia peculiar velocities, which provides a test of general relativity at cosmological scales. Combining these datasets, we will also be able to measure the acceleration of the expansion of the Universe and its isotropy.
CPPM is a lively lab with multiple projects spanning many high energy topics. The Cosmology group is strongly involved in ZTF, LSST, but also DESI and Euclid. The successful applicant will participate in ZTF/LSST to develop cosmological analyses.
The position includes a research allowance with travel money and access to the CNRS-IN2P3 Computing Center.
To start the position, the candidate must have a PhD in cosmology, astrophysics, data science or a related field. Applicants are asked to submit a CV, a research statement, a list of publications and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent directly to Benjamin Racine ([email protected]).
The position is funded by the “initiative d’excellence A*Midex” of the Aix-Marseille Université.
Applications will be reviewed starting on January 20th 2025, and the position will remain open until filled.
The position is expected to begin before October 2025.
