Job Description

For its Project Office in Bologna (Italy), CTAO Central Organization is seeking a

Project Controller

The CTAO Project Controller will be responsible for providing overall project control, including collecting and processing information concerning schedule, planning, and finances. A key task will be to deliver and maintain the integrated project schedule across the distributed CTAO construction project, monitor progress and generate progress reports. The role requires close liaison with engineering, scientific and administrative staff at the CTAO headquarter in Bologna (Italy), the Science Data Management Centre in Zeuthen (Germany), the contributing teams and institutions in Europe, Asia and North America and the CTAO hosting organizations on the Canary Islands (Spain) and in Chile. This is a stimulating position for a skilled and committed professional to contribute to a large-scale international construction project of a new observatory on two continents.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Establish, monitor and update a set of detailed project schedules for all areas of the CTAO construction project using standard coding and work breakdown structures and information from in-kind contribution teams
  • Set up the required systems and tools for creating and managing project schedules and reports
  • Work closely with CTAO staff, in-kind contributors and hosting organizations to obtain necessary and up-to-date schedule information
  • Use schedule information and cost estimates to establish the required funding profile and cash flow requirements for the realization of the CTAO construction project
  • Perform schedule control by establishing critical path reviews, planned value, earned value, schedule variance and recommend corrective actions as required
  • Report on schedule condition, critical path, delivery status, and other relevant parameters as required
  • Initiate and prepare periodic project reports

You will be reporting to: CTAO Project Manager

Your qualifications and experience:

  • University degree level education, or equivalent expertise
  • Experienced project controller with at least three years’ experience and a track record in internationally distributed projects, ideally in the science field
  • Knowledge of international project management practices and standards
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency using project management tools and computer-based project systems
  • A demonstrated ability to create, maintain, examine and report on integrated schedules for medium to large complex projects
  • A proven record and demonstrated ability to develop, roll out, maintain, and generate reports in medium to large complex projects
  • Experience in project control in a research or scientific environment will be considered an advantage
  • The ability to work effectively in an international, multi-cultural and distributed project environment
  • Good teamwork skills including the ability to integrate in a large team
  • Good oral and written communication skills, allowing to effectively communicate within the CTAO and with project participants
  • Excellent command of the English language; additional knowledge of Spanish and/or other European languages would be an advantage

 

What we offer: CTAO offers an attractive remuneration package, including a competitive salary. The contract is an open term contract subject to successful completion of the probation period.

Duty station: Bologna, Italy. Travel to the CTAO sites and locations of in-kind contributor teams in Europe is required.
