Our client, American Astronomical Society (AAS) Sky Publishing is the major organization of professional astronomers in North America. The organization is seeking an Editorial Assistant to work on editing and compiling sections of the Sky & Telescope Magazine and provide administrative and organizational support to the editorial team. The Sky & Telescope office and this position is located in Cambridge, MA.

Handle administrative tasks related to magazine and special-issue production
Confirm content rights before publication
Reply to permissions requests and reader queries
Keep the magazine index updated
Compile and edit the magazine’s “From Our Readers” section(letters to the editor) and “75/50/25 Years Ago” section
Assist with fact-checking, copyediting, and proofing
Write/edit blogs and book reviews
Handle various organizing and office managerial tasks related today-to-day office operations, including managing mail/packages/postage meter
Problem-solving with customer service/warehouse regarding S&T products/customer queries
Fulfill requests for star party door prizes, etc.
Oversee S&T social media channels and help curate online content, including gallery images, for skyand telescope.com
Our ideal candidate possesses:
Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, astronomy, or related field required, or in lieu of that a minimum of 2 years’ work experience in communications or amateur astronomy.
Superb communication and writing/editing skills
Extraordinary attention to detail
Comfort with fast-paced deadlines
Ability to organize and communicate information to others in a clear, professional manner
Strong work ethic and willingness to take initiative as a self-starter
Knowledge of astronomy preferred
Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
