The University of Potsdam, Faculty of Science, Institute of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a W2-Professorship for Stellar Astrophysics (tenured) starting on 1st of April 2017. Applicants are expected to have a strong research record in the field of stellar astrophysics which supplements and/or complements current astrophysical research at the institute. The main research topics at the Institute of Physics and Astronomy include the interstellar and intergalactic medium, X-ray observations of massive stars, theoretical and observational astro-particle physics, planetology, and others. The institute is closely connected to non-university local research institutes such as the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP), Deutsches Elektronen-Synchroton (DESY), Zeuthen, and the Max-Planck-Institute for Gravitational Physics (AEI). Applicants should have an excellent publication record and proven success in the acquisition of third-party funding.
The position involves 8 hours teaching per week as part of the Bachelor and Master study programs in Physics and Astrophysics. Excellent educational skills and teaching experience (in German and English language) therefore are required. Successful applicants are expected to integrate into the collaborative environment of astrophysical research at Potsdam University and neighboring institutes.
