Postdoctoral Position at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München
Job Summary
Job Description
Postdoctoral Position at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München
The Emmy Noether Research Group of Jiamin Hou at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in cosmology, with a focus on the intersection of theory and data analysis using large-scale structure surveys. The position is expected to start in April 2026, with flexibility.
Context
The group’s research program focuses on bridging cosmological probes with their theoretical interpretation. We develop and apply advanced statistical methods, including higher-order clustering statistics, to test fundamental physics such as parity violation and extract information from cosmological data. The postdoctoral researcher will be encouraged to develop an independent but synergistic research program in these areas. Depending on interests and strengths, the possible focus could be:
- Theoretical modeling of higher-order statistics
- Connecting probes of large-scale structure to constraints on new physics
- Methodological development using simulations and statistical tools
- Applications to current and upcoming survey data, including galaxy surveys, CMB, or gravitational waves.
Your Qualifications
- A PhD in physics, cosmology, astrophysics, or a closely related field (awarded or near completion).
- A strong theoretical background in cosmology, early-Universe physics, large-scale structure, or related topics.
- Solid computational skills (e.g., Python, C/C++, Julia, or comparable). Experience with numerical simulations, high-performance computing, or statistical inference methods is advantageous.
- Interest in, or experience with, the survey data analysis and in bridging theory with observations.
- A demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and to work effectively in a collaborative, international environment.
What We Offer
- A 4-year postdoctoral position at LMU Munich within the Emmy Noether group of Dr. Jiamin Hou.
- Employment according to the German public service pay agreement (100% TV-L E13), including health insurance, pension contributions, and other social security benefits.
- The opportunity to pursue independent research while remaining closely integrated with a vibrant research environment.
- Access to high-performance computing facilities at LMU and the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre.
- A stimulating local community: LMU’s University Observatory is embedded in Munich’s strong astrophysics ecosystem, including the Max Planck Institutes for Astrophysics and Extraterrestrial Physics, ESO headquarters, TUM, and the DFG Cluster of Excellence ORIGINS.
- Support for conference travel, research visits, and professional development.
Compensation and Benefits
