This professor position is for a person with an ample background of radio astronomy observations, who is, or can be a candidate of, an International Staff Member of the Joint ALMA Observatory (JAO) with a will and ability to lead the science and/or operations team at JAO and draw more of the potential of ALMA. Examples of the role(s) expected for the successful candidate include;
– Lead of the operation, maintenance and development of ALMA,
– Promotion towards improved efficiencies in operations and/or maintenance at JAO,
– Management of a team of JAO that consists of more than 30 staff members.
In addition, the successful candidate makes her/his own research with ALMA, and mentors younger astronomers at JAO. It is envisioned that the successful candidate would raise the state of NAOJ presence within ALMA, as an overall outcome of the above activities. She/he needs to have sufficient English language proficiency to take part in scientific/technical discussions in face-to-face meetings, video conferences and teleconferences. Successful candidate is expected to lead a large project of NAOJ and/or central managerial roles of NAOJ.
