PhD Position in Studying the Dynamics of Superclusters and Voids
Job Summary
Tõravere Tartu
Estonia
Job Description
We invite applications for a 4-year PhD position at the Tartu Observatory, University of Tartu, Estonia. This position is part of an ongoing research initiative aimed at understanding the dynamics of the Universe’s largest structures - superclusters and cosmic voids - and potentially using them as probes for testing fundamental cosmological models.
The successful candidate will work with Dr. Shishir Sankhyayan and Prof. Elmo Tempel on a project focused on the dynamics and spatial distribution of superclusters of galaxies and voids, with the goal of developing novel methods for probing the large-scale structure of the Universe. Using a combination of cosmological simulations and observational data from galaxy surveys, the project aims to deliver new insights into the flows of matter on large scales and the cosmological parameters that shape these flows.
We are looking for a highly motivated student with a strong background in one or more of the following: cosmology, astrophysics, physics, mathematics, or computer science. To be eligible to apply, a candidate must hold a Master's or equivalent degree in Physics, Astronomy, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field by the starting date of the enrollment (1 September 2025). Previous experience with galaxy survey data, clustering analysis, and/or large-scale structure modelling is highly desirable. Proficiency in English is a requirement for acceptance.
The application deadline is May 15, 2025. Applications should be submitted through the University of Tartu admission system. Entry requirements and more detailed information can be found here
