Research Scientist ‐ Observational Radio Astronomy
Job Summary
Job Description
CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science (CASS) manages the Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF), including the Parkes radio telescope, the Australia Telescope Compact Array and the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder. CASS also contributes to the development of the international Square Kilometre Array (SKA). CASS invites applications for a Research Scientist in Observational Radio Astronomy. We are seeking someone with an outstanding track record in radio astronomy science and/or associated techniques to be involved in the support of National Facility operations. We expect the appointee to carry out world‐class research using facilities associated with CASS, including, but not limited to, the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder and the Square Kilometre Array low-frequency array.
The successful candidate will be based either at the CASS site in Sydney, Australia or the CASS site in Perth, Australia. Both have a lively research environment, and are part of the ATNF Science group. The Australian astronomical community is large and vibrant, consisting of researchers at CASS, the Australian Astronomical Observatory and major teaching Universities. The position comes with a generous discretionary research allowance, the possibility of attracting post‐doctorate fellows through CSIRO schemes and access to a large pool of astronomy students nationally and internationally. The position also includes assistance with relocation and other benefits.
CASS is committed to diversity, in particular to demonstrating best practice and implementing initiatives to improve diversity and equity within our workplace.
