Western Washington University seeks applications for two tenure-track faculty positions, each with specialization in physics and/or astronomy education research. These joint appointments in the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Science, Mathematics and Technology Education (SMATE) program start in September 2017. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a related field OR in science education, with preference given to applicants with graduate-level coursework in physics, astronomy, or a related field. Candidates must have undergraduate or K12 teaching experience and demonstrated interest in working with preservice K12 teachers. Preference will be given to candidates with a record of or potential for teaching approaches informed by best practices and/or research on student learning. Effective communication skills and an ability to work effectively with diverse populations are required.

Candidates must have a commitment to developing a sustainable program of scholarship in physics or astronomy education. Successful applicants will be expected to apply for external funding and to pursue on-campus research that actively involves undergraduate research assistants. Post-doctoral research experience and a record of high quality scholarship are strongly preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate potential for active collaborations with existing faculty at WWU.
