The Exoplanets and Stellar Astrophysics Laboratory, in the Astrophysics Science Division of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, is seeking a Research Astrophysicist in Ultraviolet Science and Technology civil servant to carry out a science/technology development program in support of the study of exoplanets/stellar systems in the UV, and may also participate in the Goddard cross-divisional exoplanet initiative. Duties include: lead/substantially contribute to developing science cases and implementation concepts for future missions focused on ultraviolet astrophysics, and to conduct related scientific research. The Laboratory expects upcoming opportunities to advance high-resolution spectrographs and other UV instrumentation for research in exoplanet and stellar astrophysics missions carried out on a variety of scales, from CubeSats and SmallSats to large missions advocated by the Astro2020 Decadal survey, including flagships and probes. The Laboratory participates in scientific research/project management of the Hubble Space Telescope.
Desired qualifications include: a scientific publication record in astronomy and astrophysics relevant to the multiwavelength study of exoplanets / stellar systems, including research relevant to UV astronomy; The ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders including collaborators at a variety of career stages, NASA HQ program scientists and program executives, GSFC engineers, budgetary and management staff, and the wider astrophysical community. Interest at the early-to-mid-career (GS-13, GS-14) or senior (GS-15) level is welcomed.
