SMASH Postdoctoral Fellowships in Machine Learning for Science and Humanities
Job Summary
Job Description
The third call for applications for SMASH postdoctoral Fellowships, co-funded by Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions, offers excellent research opportunities that revolve around the use of cutting-edge machine learning, or more broadly, artificial intelligence techniques, to address some of the world’s most challenging questions in:
- Machine Learning for Scientific Applications
- Machine Learning for Particle Physics, Astrophysics, and Cosmology
- Computing for Human and Animal Communication
- Machine Learning in Climate Research
- Personalized Medicine and Life Sciences
In this call, SMASH aims to hire 18 fellows who will be hosted in five Slovenian institutions. They can also spend up to 1/3 of their fellowship duration at one of our international academic partners (including world-leading institutions like CERN and UC Berkeley) or at some of the most successful Slovenian companies.
Each fellowship offers excellent working conditions, access to top infrastructure (including the peta supercomputer Vega), substantial research and travel funds and a salary that is significantly higher than local costs of living.
In order to apply, fellows need to contact their desired supervisor who will assist them in preparing short research proposals and provide them with the necessary letters of support from the host institutions (for more information see: https://smash.ung.si/).
Who can apply?
Holders of a PhD degree, of any nationality, complying with the MSCA-COFUND mobility rule can apply, namely: SMASH fellows must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Slovenia for more than 12 months in the three year period before the call deadline.
The SMASH program values an inclusive culture and believes diversity is the key to success, so SMASH warmly welcomes applicants from underrepresented groups. Note also that SMASH offers a dedicated allowance to support applicants with special needs.
The application deadline is October 21th.
Compensation and Benefits
Fellows will be employed according to the regular fixed-term salaried employment contract in accordance with Slovenian national regulations. Fellows will be entitled to the statutory benefits granted by national regulations and hosting institution rules for working hours, flexi-time, paid annual leave, sick leave, parental leave, social security coverage, pension insurance and family allowance.
