The Scuola Normale Superiore (SNS) in Pisa, Italy, invites applications for a four-year doctoral program in Computational Astrophysics and Cosmology (COMPAC), beginning on November 1, 2025. COMPAC is an established PhD program at SNS, aimed at training the next generation of world-leading researchers in today’s data-rich astrophysical and cosmological landscape.

COMPAC offers a highly competitive PhD program, featuring lectures, seminars, and a research project supervised by scientists at the institution. The program includes a broad range of courses and research opportunities focused on ground- and space-based observations (e.g., JWST, VLT, ALMA), cosmological simulations, data-driven modeling, and machine learning. PhD candidates receive a competitive stipend to support their studies, travel funds to attend conferences and conduct research abroad, and additional benefits, including free meals and access to cultural and social events.
The Astrophysics and Cosmology group at the SNS is a highly dynamic research and learning environment, comprising over 30 members, including faculty, associate scientists, postdoctoral researchers, and students.
