Job Description

The Department of Astronomy would like to fill a tenure-track faculty position in the area of astrophysical and/or planetary small satellite (e.g. CubeSat) mission development and implementation.

We are seeking outstanding applicants for a tenure track faculty position at the assistant, associate, or senior level. The applicant should have experience and/or an interest in utilizing the potential of small satellites (e.g. CubeSats) in addressing compelling questions in the areas of astrophysics, heliophysics, and/or planetary exploration. Recent advances in small satellite technology have made them a viable, powerful platform from which a large variety of investigations can be conducted at relatively low cost and risk. Small Satellites also offer unique opportunities for graduate and undergraduate education. In recognition of this, the University of Arizona is launching a multidisciplinary small satellite initiative with the goal of designing, building, and operating future small satellite missions. A payload integration facility incorporating laboratories, a high bay, and mission operations center is planned for the near future. The University of Arizona hosts a world-class program in ground, balloon-borne, space-based instrumentation, planetary exploration, and operates a variety of radio, infrared, and optical telescopes from which complementary observational programs can be conducted.

The candidate is expected to support and be in engaged in the Inclusive Excellence initiatives from the College of Science.
