Job Description
Kiel University aims to attract more qualified women to professorships.
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Kiel University intends to fill a W2 Professorship in Astrophysics at the earliest possible date.
The successful candidate is expected to establish an internationally visible research group in the field of astrophysics and to establish a research and teaching program which complements the existing divisions of Astrophysics and Extraterrestrial Physics with the focus on astrophysics.
Connections to the existing research area of "Star and Planet Formation, Exoplanets" are expected. Active participation in existing research topics and consortia within the broader research environment of the professorship, as well as in interdisciplinary research foci at Kiel University, is highly desirable. Experience in international research collaborations and mentoring of early-career researchers is desired.
The successful candidate is required to teach in accordance with the applicable teaching load regulations for universities in the state of Schleswig-Holstein (LVVO). The candidate is expected to contribute to courses such as "Theoretical Mechanics" and "Electrodynamics" in the field of theoretical physics, amounting to the extent of an average of three teaching hours per semester. The willingness to teach in German, possibly after a transition period, and experience in teaching are expected. The ability to conduct high-quality teaching will be assessed through a teaching demonstration as part of the appointment procedure.
Requirements:
Applicants must hold a university degree, have an excellent PhD in physics with a focus on astrophysics, demonstrate several years of successful research in astrophysics, and have a proven track record of successful acquisition of third-party funding.
