Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Astrophysics at the University of Exeter (Ref. P37013)

The College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences wishes to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor to expand the current research performed in the Astrophysics group at the University of Exeter (http://www.astro.ex.ac.uk/). The group is particularly active in the fields of exoplanets, star formation and computational stellar astrophysics. It engages in cutting-edge instrumentation projects, through the Terra Hunting Experiment, is leading a JWST Early Release Science Program devoted to high contrast imaging of exoplanets and is considering establishing an instrumentation lab that will focus on developing high-contrast imaging instrumentation for exoplanet detection and characterization. The role

Candidates in areas related or complementary to existing Exeter strengths will be considered. Experts in the field of observational exoplanets are particularly encouraged to apply. We are looking for innovative researchers with an international reputation and with a strong track record of research funding and international quality publications. The candidate will have the ability to attract world-class postdoctoral fellows and students and will contribute to relevant areas of teaching as appropriate.

About you

For a Lecturer post you will have:

  • A PhD in Physics, Astrophysics or a related area and have an independent, internationally-recognised research programme in a relevant active field of research
  • A strong record in attracting funding for research, or demonstrate potential to attract such funding
  • An active approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research
  • Enthusiasm for delivering high quality undergraduate programmes
  • Involvement in projects which develop impact.

For Senior Lecturer, in addition to the above, you will have:

  • A strong potential for research leadership
  • A track record in refereed publications and success in significant grant capture.

For appointment at Associate Professor you will:

  • Be a leading authority in Astrophysics with an international reputation, as evidenced by research publications, sustained funding as principal investigator and PhD supervision as well as other esteem indicators.
  • Have experience of making significant contribution to the development and clarification of research strategy for their subject area
  • Contribute to our educational programmes and to the overall student experience.

Appointments will be made within the following salary bands dependent on knowledge skills and experience; Lecturer: £35,211 to £43,267, Senior Lecturer: £44,559 to £58,089, Associate Professor: £56,677 to £71,407.
