Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at Dartmouth College to work with Prof. Mutlu-Pakdil and collaborators in research related to nearby dwarf galaxies, with an emphasis on using artificial intelligence techniques for discovery in wide-field imaging surveys.

As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will be encouraged to integrate into your joint scientific efforts centered around faint dwarf galaxies in the local universe and support an equitable scholarly environment in research, mentoring, and service. Your work will focus on the SEAMLESS (SEmi-Automated Machine LEarning Search for Semi-resolved galaxies) survey, whose goal is to identify faint and ultra-faint dwarf galaxies beyond the Local Group in wide-field imaging surveys. Dartmouth has a 10% share in the 10m Southern Large Telescope and a 25% share of MDM observatory, which has a 2.4m and a 1.3m telescope. You will be able to apply for time on these telescopes directly as a PI. You will be expected to lead high-profile research as well as collaborate with researchers in the Physics and Astronomy Department.

Research experience in observational studies of galaxies in the nearby universe is desirable; experience in working with large-survey data is a plus. The position includes funds for travel, publications, and computing, and offers a competitive salary with health benefits. The expected start date is Fall 2026, although an earlier start date is possible .
