Cosmic AI Postdoctoral Fellow in Time Domain Astronomy at NSF NOIRLab

The newly launched NSF-Simons CosmicAI Institute is seeking a dynamic Postdoctoral Fellow to drive breakthroughs in AI and astronomy. Based at NSF NOIRLab in sunny Tucson, AZ, you’ll lead efforts to curate and analyze multi-epoch time-domain data—powering real-time classification for next-gen alert brokers like ANTARES in support of the Vera Rubin Observatory’s LSST.

• Collaborate with a world-class team from NOIRLab, SLAC, UVA, and more
• Leverage top-tier computational resources (incl. a new 600-GPU cluster at TACC)
• Develop AI tools to accelerate discovery of the origins of our universe

You’ll split your time evenly between contributing to the CosmicAI Institute and independent research, fostering your own scientific growth.

Who You Are:

• PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Physics, or related field
• Strong background in data science, software dev, and/or time-domain astronomy
• Skilled communicator & team collaborator
• Interested in driving AI innovation in astronomical data systems

Preferred:

• Experience with ML/DL frameworks and HPC/HTC systems
• Experience with time-series data of transients, in particular Supernovae, Tidal Disruption Events or similar.
