Postdoctoral in Theoretical/Computational Astrophysics
Job Summary
Job Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Florence (Italy) invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship from researchers with strong background in theoretical and computational astrophysics.
The research will be conducted within the GALRAY project “Unraveling the Cosmic Ray Impact on Galaxy Ecosystems”, funded by a FIS (Fondo Italiano per la Scienza) Consolidator Grant, and led by Prof. Lucia Armillotta. The goal of the project is to investigate the impact of cosmic rays on the interstellar medium and galaxy evolution through advanced magnetohydrodynamic simulations. The successful candidate will contribute to one or more aspects of the project, which may include the development of spectrally resolved cosmic-ray transport models, simulations of galactic disks and winds and/or individual molecular clouds, as well as the production of synthetic gamma-ray and radio observations. Expertise in computational astrophysics, MHD simulations, cosmic ray physics, or interstellar medium physics is highly desirable. The candidate will have the opportunity to work within the TIGRESS collaboration and to contribute to the continued development and scientific application of the TIGRESS simulation framework.
The candidates must hold a PhD in Physics or Astrophysics by the 15th of December 2026. The appointment is initially offered for two years, with the possibility of a further two-year extension.
The gross salary will be of ~39,000 €/year, roughly 2300€/month after social security witholding and taxes. Non-italian residents who move to Italy will also benefit from a conspicuous tax reduction, resulting in a net salary of ~2900€/month. Generous research and travel funds will also be available.
For additional information about the research project or about administrative procedures, interested candidates can get in touch with the scientific coordinator, Prof. Lucia Armillotta, [email protected]
