Job Description
The Department of Mathematics and Physics within the College of Health and Sciences promotes North Carolina Central University’s commitment to excellence in instruction, research, and service offering programs of study leading to the Bachelor of Science degree and the Master of Science degree each in mathematics and in physics. In addition, the Department offers all General Education Curriculum courses in mathematics as well as in physics.
The purpose of this Mathematics/Physics tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor of Physics is to develop an astronomy and astrophysics program including research and courses to provide academic support, enrichment, research and work opportunities for Mathematics/Physics students at NCCU.
Normal duties of this faculty position include teaching, research, and service. More specifically, the duties will include: (1) teaching a range of physics courses at the undergraduate level, introductory astronomy, computer and computational science courses, and graduate level courses as appropriate; teach physics courses and possibly lower-division computational courses.
There is already research funding in place, and a specific task of the professor is to contribute to the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope supernova project infrastructure team effort led by a Duke University collaborator. Specifically, the NCCU group is part of the calibration efforts. Seek independent funding and build a sustainable research program. Lead or co-lead independent scholarly research and publication in the discipline, supervise undergraduate and graduate research in the department. An adjunct professor position at Duke University is expected along with this position.
