Job Description

The Department of Astronomy at Stockholm University invites applications for up to four Postdoctoral Researchers in High-Redshift Galaxies and Cosmic Reionization

We offer up to four postdoctoral positions for various observational and computation studies of first light galaxies and cosmic reionization. The postdocs will be active within a 2024-funded Project of High Scientific Impact awarded by the Knut & Alice Wallenberg Foundation. Candidates are expected to work on one of more of the following broad themes:

  • Surveys and/or detailed studies of galaxies and AGN in the EoR, using JWST+HST imaging and spectroscopic datasets (w/ Matthew Hayes)
  • Sub-galactic scale studies of young galaxies at redshifts 5-10 using JWST imaging and spectroscopic campaigns in cosmological lens fields (w/ Angela Adamo)
  • JWST/MIRI+NIRCam imaging of very high redshift galaxies to investigate the onset of star formation and the production of ionizing radiation' (w/ Göran Östlin).
  • High-resolution hydrodynamical simulations of dwarf galaxies or cosmological radiative transfer in the IGM (w/ Garrelt Mellema)

Applicants should express an interest in projects in their cover letter. All new hires will be expected to collaborate generally within the framework of the project, and to work within large international teams. Access to the LSST data platform will also be possible.

Appointment is for 2+1 years. The portal mentions candidates being within 3 years of the PhD award, but recruitment outside this window will be equally assessed. The position offers a competitive salary and generous benefits. Stockholm University strives to be a workplace free from discrimination and with equal opportunities for all.
