Membership is open to all interested AAS members, regardless of their status or background.
The Society awards more than a dozen prizes, awards, and honors to deserving educators, scientists, and amateur astronomers. Members of prize, award, and honor committees are responsible for reviewing nominations and making recommendations for the AAS's annual prize and award recipients and the annual class of AAS Fellows.

Members: The memberships of AAS prize committees are not shared.
Terms: Terms for all the prize committees are three years (July – June) and are renewable. The active review period begins in mid-July and ends in late October. Members may volunteer at any time.

To Volunteer: Members may volunteer to serve on a prize committee by signing up in the member portal. Volunteers will be contacted in the spring with a survey where they can indicate committee preferences and enter qualifications and relevant experience.
