This announcement comes from Patrick Mulvey, Statistical Research Center, American Institute of Physics:

The Statistical Research Center at the American Institute of Physics, of which the AAS is a member society, has released two new reports based on the 2013 edition of AIP's annual survey of enrollments and degrees:

These reports provide a detailed, department-by-department listing, with Fall 2013 enrollments and 2012-13 degree data for each degree-granting physics and astronomy department in the United States.

Highlights

Physics bachelor's degree production has more than doubled since the recent low in 1999. The 7,363 physics bachelor's degrees earned in the 2012-13 academic year represents almost a 9% increase over the previous year. The number of physics PhDs conferred in the class of 2013 was unchanged from the previous year after steady increases for the past decade.

Total undergraduate astronomy enrollments continue to rise at the 78 degree-granting astronomy departments in the US. Undergraduate astronomy majors are at an all-time high, and astronomy bachelor's degree production is expected to continue to rise as a result. First-year graduate-student enrollments for Fall 2013 experienced a sharp decline of 21% from the previous year to 183 students.
