Students: Have You Started Thinking About Summer Programs?

Posted on behalf of the Institute for Broadening Participation (IBP).

It's only November but if you're a student, it's not too early to being preparing your applications for paid summer research experiences and graduate programs. The Institute for Broadening Participation (IBP) website Pathways to Science maintains a list of hundreds of summer research and graduate programs through which you can search to find programs of interest to you. Right now there are 584 summer research opportunities for undergraduate students and 355 programs for graduate students around the world listed on the site for your perusal.

IBP also has a collection of resources available on topics such as preparing and enhancing applications, the graduate school experience, postdoc positions, and much more.

IBP's mission is to increase diversity in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) workforce. IBP designs and implements strategies to increase access to STEM education, funding, and careers, with special emphasis on reaching underserved communities and diverse underrepresented groups. PathwaysToScience.org makes it easy for faculty and administrators to access resources that can assist them in their efforts to reduce barriers to participation, create environments rich in the positive factors that support student success on the STEM pathway, and conduct outreach to underserved communities and underrepresented groups by implementing recruitment and retention strategies that broaden participation and increase diversity.
