This announcement is posted on behalf of Don Rea, coordinator of the AAAS STEM Volunteers program:

AAAS LogoThe American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) needs science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) professionals to assist K-12 teachers in the DC metro area during the 2018-19 school year. The details of the collaboration are worked out between the teacher and the volunteer and may involve giving demonstrations, assisting in lab experiments, lecturing on special topics, assisting with homework, etc.

The hours are flexible, and volunteers attend a one-day orientation session before being assigned to schools. To see how volunteers are assisting their teachers, view the video clips on the AAAS STEM Volunteers page.

If you care about K-12 STEM education and have time to share your knowledge with students and teachers, please email Betty Calinger at the AAAS with your contact information, including your home address (so she'll know which schools are near you), or call 202-326-6629.

If you're interested in volunteering but don't live in the DC metro area, the AAAS maintains a list of STEM volunteer opportunities around the country.
