Vienna Workshop on Light Pollution and Radio Interference

Constance Walker NSF's NOIRLab / IAU CPS

Black MarbleOn behalf of International Astronomical Union (IAU)  Commission B7 on Protection of Existing and Potential Observatory Sites, we are pleased to invite you to a two-day meeting during the XXX IAU General Assembly that will focus on light pollution and radio interference issues and solutions. There is no registration fee for this meeting, and you do not have to be an IAU member to participate.

The meeting will take place at Kuffner Observatory in Vienna, Austria, on Friday, August 24, and Sunday, August 26, 2018. The first day will be a joint meeting with staff members of the Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE, International Commission on Illumination) about technical issues related to obtrusive light. The second day will begin with a plenary talk by Fabio Falchi, author of The World Atlas of Light Pollution, then continue with talks on mitigating light pollution and radio interference through site protection and education. Three panel discussions on the second day will provide great opportunities for sharing issues and solutions. We have a stellar group of presenters both days. The first iteration of the two-day program schedule is linked below under RESOURCES.

If you plan to attend, please RSVP by email to Connie Walker by August 1st. We hope to provide lunch and refreshments on both days, so we need an accurate head count.

If you'd like to present a poster related to the topics on the agenda of the meeting, please submit a title and 200-word abstract by email to Connie Walker by August 1st.

We look forward to seeing you in Vienna!

Richard Green, Commission B7 President (SOC co-chair)
Connie Walker, Commission B7 Vice-President (SOC co-chair)

P.S. We wish to acknowledge and thank Günther Wuchterl, Director of Kuffner Observatory and LOC member, for allowing us to hold the meeting at the observatory.
