Job Description

The Astrophysics and Cosmology group at the University of California, Davis invites
applications for a postdoctoral research position with Prof. Tucker Jones. The successful
candidate will work on observational studies of galaxy formation and evolution, with a focus on
chemical abundance of interstellar gas and star-forming regions including programs with Keck,
SOFIA, and HST. Experience with spectroscopic and multi-wavelength data analysis, and/or
photoionization modeling, is desired. Candidates interested in chemical evolution, the
circumgalactic medium, feedback and gas flows are especially encouraged to apply.

The position is for two years, with a third year possible contingent upon performance and
availability of funds. The starting date is negotiable, nominally in Fall 2021 or earlier. A Ph.D. in
astronomy or physics, or a closely related field, is required by the start date. Any questions about
the position may be directed to [email protected].

The following application materials are requested in a single pdf file: a cover letter, curriculum
vitae including a publication list, and description of research interests and previous work (up to 4

materials should be sent directly to [email protected]. Apply by 15 January 2021 for full
consideration, but the position will remain open until filled.

Area and two hours from skiing/hiking in the Sierra Nevada mountains and Lake Tahoe.

The University of California is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. The
Department of Physics and Astronomy is fully committed to a culture that welcomes and
supports diversity, and that affirms equal opportunities for all who teach and learn here.
