Job Description

The Department of Physics within the College of Sciences at NC State University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the area of observational extragalactic astrophysics. The successful candidate will work in the research group of Professor Rongmon Bordoloi (

The postdoc will lead the analysis of a Cycle 30 HST program on the circumgalactic medium (CGM) of massive blue galaxies. The program will study how quenching happens in massive galaxies, and how feedback from massive galaxies changes their CGM using HST/COS and ground-based observations. The postdoc will also have the opportunity to become involved in other research projects with members of our group. Part of the applicant’s time will be available for independent research.

Our research group holds weekly meetings, offers regular travel opportunities, and values collaborative learning. The group is involved in various HST, JWST GTO/GO, and  ground-based observatory led programs. Successful applicant will work collaboratively with our larger team, spread across different US institutes. We value communication, teamwork, reliability, and inter-personal skills.

Candidate must have a PhD in Astronomy or Physics at the time of starting the position. Candidates with expertise in all areas of extragalactic astronomy are encouraged to apply. To apply, please visit
