Job Description

The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Toledo plans to fill one or more tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in the field of Interdisciplinary Data Science. We are seeking candidates with a strong track record of research accomplishment in big data, astrostatistics, machine-learning, artificial intelligence, or related areas.

The astronomy and astrophysics group within the Department of Physics & Astronomy consists of 10 faculty and staff, approximately 20 graduate students and several postdocs. UToledo is a member of the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA), and we are major users of JWST, HST, ALMA, Ohio Supercomputer Center, and other premiere facilities. The in-house Ritter Planetarium is a high-impact outreach venue, offering programming to more than twenty-thousand visitors per year. The newly renovated Ritter 1m telescope on campus is in active use for student training and long-term monitoring.

A successful candidate will be expected to develop an active, independent, externally-funded research program. A PhD. in physics, astronomy, or another closely related field is required. Excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level in astronomy and data science is expected, and candidates should plan to involve both graduate and undergraduate students in their research. The new faculty members will be expected to help revise existing academic programs and contribute to the development of new ones in their area.

Review of applications will begin October 31, 2025 and continue until the position is filled. The starting date for this position will be August 24, 2026.
