Job Description

Tsinghua University's Department of Astronomy invites applications for a post-doctoral researcher position for the MUltiplexed Survey Telescope (MUST) project.

This is a two-year position initially, renewable for a third year depending on performance and funding.

MUST is a 6.5-meter wide-field & highly multiplexed, next-generation spectroscopic survey telescope under design and construction in China. It is an ambitious international collaboration led by Tsinghua University to carry out Stage-V cosmological surveys and other massively multiplexed spectroscopic surveys for extragalactic, stellar, and time-domain targets in the early 2030s. For more information about the MUST project, please contact us or check our website (

As MUST is still under development, we encourage the selected candidates to conduct independent research in the fields relevant to MUST’s future scientific goals and applications. Meanwhile, the position also allows ambitious early-career researchers to engage in groundbreaking technology development for MUST and play an important role in the scientific collaboration of an upcoming large spectroscopic survey facility.

Currently, MUST’s core scientific goals focus on cosmology, extragalactic science, and time-domain astrophysics. We encourage candidates with these backgrounds, especially those with experience participating in relevant spectroscopic survey projects, to apply.  We will also give special consideration to candidates with experience in astronomical instrumentation, particularly spectrographs, or those with strong coding skills.

The candidate will have the opportunity to engage with other faculties and researchers at Tsinghua University’s young but rapidly growing Department of Astronomy ( and will have full access to domestic and international observing facilities and computational resources at Tsinghua.

Interested candidates should submit their application electronically, including all the required documents, to [email protected]. Please specify “MUST Fellowship Application” in the email's subject line.

·  Ph.D. in Astronomy, Astrophysics, or a closely related field.

·  A detailed Curriculum Vitae or Resume.

·  A concise Research Statement (no more than three pages) emphasizing the applicant's interest and potential contributions to the MUST project.

·  Three letters of Recommendation.

Tsinghua University is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment. Candidates from all backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
