Job Description

The Institute for Physics and Astronomy of the Universidad de Valparaíso (IFA-UV, Chile; https://ifa.uv.cl/en/) invites applications for a postdoctoral position to work with Prof. Edo Ibar (IFA-UV) on exploiting ALMA and MUSE observations for tackling the star formation and the ISM content in large samples of line emitting galaxies recently detected by the JWST Line Emitting Survey (JELS: PI. Philip Best) in ~60 arcmin^2 of the COSMOS-PRIMER field.

The project will be carried out together with the members of the JELS collaboration while also supporting PhD and MSc students from the IFA-UV. We seek highly qualified and motivated researchers with background in the formation and evolution of galaxies, particularly with skills in mm/submm interferometry, multi-wavelength analyses, stacking and/or dynamical modelling.

The postdoctoral position will be funded for two years, with potential extension subject to the availability of external grants (e.g. from ANID https://anid.cl/). The selected candidate will qualify as member of the Chilean community with privileged access to 10% of the time on all observatories in Chile, including ALMA, APEX, ESO Paranal/La Silla, Gemini-South, LCO and possible membership to LSST or CCAT surveys.

IFA-UV is located in Valparaíso, a city declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. The successful candidates will join the vibrant atmosphere of the IFA-UV, which is nowadays composed of 20 faculty, 6 postdocs, 30 postgraduate and over 150 undergraduate students. If desired, opportunities for teaching to postgraduate students (in english or spanish) are possible.

Applicants should fill the application form by sending a cover letter, a CV, a research statement (max. 3 pages), and 3 names/emails to solicit reference letters from. Late applications will be considered until the position is filled. Anticipated starting date between April-August 2024.
