Job Description

The Institute of Astrophysics (IA) and the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Universidad Andres Bello (UNAB) invite applications for a Faculty Position in the field of Astrophysics at the Santiago Campus. The UNAB IA hosts a friendly and stimulating international research environment composed of 16 Faculty members, 10 postdocs, and about 20 graduate students. The IA has two branches: the main one in Santiago and a recently established group in Concepción. The main research topics carried out are exoplanets, astrobiology, proto-planetary disks, stellar evolution and populations, Milky Way and Local Group, globular clusters, gaseous/stellar dynamics and structure of galaxies, galaxy formation and evolution, gravitational waves, active galactic nuclei, gravitational lensing, galaxy clusters, and cosmology. Members of the IA have access to state-of-the-art observational infrastructure in Chile (e.g., ESO, Las Campanas, Gemini-South, ALMA, CTIO, among others) and observational datasets (e.g., APOGEE, VVVX, LSST, SDSSV, and 4MOST when in operation). In addition, the IA hosts a cluster for numerical simulations and high-volume data reduction and analysis.

The candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree in Astronomy or Physics and is expected to teach in Spanish within one year. The position is open to all areas of astrophysics and the priority for the hiring will be given according to: (i) excellence in research; (ii) potential for generating synergies with UNAB astronomers and local universities or complementing the astronomy group at UNAB with new research areas and/or technical expertise; (iii) commitment with teaching and student supervision at undergraduate and graduate level, and with outreach; (iv) proven record of publications and ability to attract funding.

Competitive salary and benefits including a bonus for productivity are offered, as well as possibility to apply for internal funds for projects and support to apply for external funding.
